The Newcastle Eagles Basketball team approached TyneMet when they needed a Trainee Coach for their Basketball Development Centre.
The tailored Apprenticeship Programme from TyneMet College meant that the Apprentices could get involved in lots of the coaching sessions at the Basketball Development Centre alongside the professional coaching staff as well as understanding how the business works in an office environment with an introduction to the sales side of the organisation. At TyneMet College we cover a variety of coaching related topics, which gives Apprentices the confidence to prepare and lead their own coaching sessions.
"In partnership with TyneMet College the Eagles Community Foundation (ECF) has taken on three apprentices this year. This has allowed the young coaches to gain valuable experience working alongside our current coaching staff and enabled them to put into practice the teaching they receive at the College.
From an ECF point of view we are able to train future employees our way and have a-hands on role in their development. This means we have a clear idea of how our workforce is growing and we are confident that our employees are appropriately trained and ready for the challenges awaiting them."
